Here is the engagement announcement for Bruce Kent Grant and Audrey Nelle Chambers from the November 17, 1964 edition of the "Reno-Gazzette Journal":
"Former Miss Nevada Will Marry"
Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Chambers of Las Vegas have announced the engagement of their daughter, Audrey Nelle Chambers, to Bruce Kent Grant, son of Mr.- and Mrs. Kent Grant, also of Las Vegas. The bride elect was Miss Nevada 1962 and a former student of the University of Nevada. She is completing her senior year hat the Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. The future bridegroom served as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Korea from 1960 to 1963. He attended the BYU and is now serving in the Army Intelligence Corps. A December 18 wedding in the St. George LDS Temple is planned.According to the engagement announcement, Bruce Grant (born in April 1940) began serving in the Army Intelligence Corps after serving as a missionary in South Korea from 1960 to 1963. It does not say if he was drafted or not. According to an online profile of 1962 Miss Nevada HERE, in 1978 Mrs. Grant lived in Korea for ten years with her husband, who was working as an advisor to the Commander in Chief for all forces and was a leading expert in the Korean language.
Besides writing the three books shown above, Bruce Grant also translated, I think, "Han Joon Nok: Reminiscences in Retirement," which were the memoirs of Queen Heongyeong (헌경왕후), who was born on August 6, 1735 and died on January 13, 1816.
What I find interesting is that Bruce K. Grant seemed to publish only from 1979 until 1982. I wonder why. I assume his government job and family kept him too busy after that, which is unfortunate. As far as I know, Mr. Grant and his wife are still living today, which would mean he is now 76 years old.

Hello! My name is Michele Grant. I am the eldest of Bruce K. Grant's seven children. Today is March 10, 2017. I am 50 years old and I was born in Seoul, Korea as most of the rest of my siblings. Both of my parents, Bruce K. Grant, and Audrey Grant are alive and mostly well as of today. So is my Miss Nevada mother (who is still just as beautiful as she is smart, by the way). My father's intelligence is still going strong, as is his amazing command of the Korean language and sense of humor. I'm not sure why dad didn't publish more books throughout his life, as he has so much more to share with the world. However, I can only guess that it's because they were not as profitable as he would have liked. Plus he had seven kids to take care of and countless LDS leadership positions in which to spread the gospel. Dad is not a fan of social media, though he does have a seldom-used Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/brucekgrant. Best of luck to you and your studies! --Michele Grant, daughter
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for responding. I am sure that many of the people who know of your dad will be happy to hear that both your parents are doing well. I was in Korea during a time when your dad was considered somewhat of a rock star by many Korean language learners, especially after his book on Chinese characters came out. I am surprised to hear that that book, in particular, was not as profitable as he would have liked because I have bought that book two of three times in my life, including a recent purchase. I also bought your dad's "Korean Proverbs" book, which I have now misplaced. I am guessing I probably loaned it out and never got it back. I also recently bought a used copy of "Han Joong Nok, Reminiscences in Retirement," a book your dad translated into English.
DeleteAnyway, I can imagine that raising seven kids would keep anyone busy, even someone without all the other responsibilities your dad has had. Nevertheless, I will be keeping my eye out for another possible Bruce K. Grant book. Thank you, again, and I wish you and your family the very best.
